The History of Deer Mountain Village

2021: The Beginning of Deer Mountain Village

The transformation of Deer Mountain began with Gerard and Alec Keating of Keating Resources in 2021. Their mission was to create a premier residential enclave that honored the area's rich history. With 185 private mountainside lots, the development began on the east side of Deer Mountain, offering individuals and families the opportunity to build their dream homes amidst the beauty of the Black Hills.

2022: Planning and Preparation

Following the purchase, extensive planning and preparation began, including the addition and refurbishment of onsite amenities.

2023: Mountain Biking Trail

A major milestone was the development of an onsite mountain biking trail, completed in July 2023. This trail, the longest downhill mountain biking trail in South Dakota, caters to enthusiasts of all levels and cemented Deer Mountain Village's reputation as a haven for adventure and outdoor recreation.

2024: Ski Lift and Clubhouse

Deer Mountain Village is an all-season community, offering opportunities for adventure in both summer and winter. The refurbishment of the original 55-year-old East Mountain ski lift was completed in January 2024, ensuring that residents could enjoy private skiing experiences with all the charm and challenge of Deer Mountain's slopes.

The construction of the Clubhouse, which began in August 2024, is set to be the heart of the community. It will offer a range of exclusive amenities, from private skiing and mountain biking to leisurely days by the pool or engaging in a game of pickleball.
